Take Your Place

What happened to us? Who are you? Do you know who you are? What happened to the pride and the dignity and the love and respect that we had for one another. Where did it go. And how, How do we get it back? I'ma tell you.

Young Black men, take your place. We need you. Your sons and daughters need you. Did you understand what I just said. You were sold off and had no choice, yes but now it's time to stay. Take your place. Now. Starting now. Starting now.

Young black women, you are more than your thighs and your hips. You are beautiful, strong, powerful. I want more from you. Take your place.

I took part of the poem that Cicley Tyson recited in Madea's Family Reunion. I was watching and every time I hear it, I feel it deep down in my soul.

What keeps us from taking our place? Is it fear, complacency, confussion, etc. Whatever it is, I'm ready to stand tall and get it back.

I have a place, you have a place and the time is now to "Take Your Place."

love how you give NO CREDIT to Tyler Perry for stealing the speech he wrote for Cicely Tyson.

You are absolutely right. Now is the time for me and my peers to take our place. My name is Travis Swift and I'm a 23yr old black male in Cincinnati, OH. When I look at my peers (young black men in particular) and witness how it appears that society doesn’t want us to have a piece of there pie (unless where housed in the new industrial complex called prison), it angers me immensely. Although we must take personal responsibility for our current state in order to improve it, there are many barriers that we had nothing to do with such as slavery and its goal to steal our strength and manhood from. Because of this, I have set out to write a book about what we go though along with solutions. However, since I alone don’t have all of the solutions, it is important that I get the help of every caring black person willing to lend a helping hand in order to perfect this imperfect system. I would be honored to speak with you. (513)264-2093 and tswift513@gmail.com is my contact information.
